Haltwhistle is a bustling town on the banks of the South Tyne River, 37 miles from Newcastle and 21 miles from Carlisle. Popular with tourists visiting Hadrian’s Wall, it has a thriving centre with a market, cafes and restaurants as well as a National Park Visitors Centre and swimming and leisure centre. The Golden Living development is within 560 metres of the main street shops including the bank, post office, tourist information office, supermarket, library and a number of tea shops, cafes and gift shops. Trains run from Haltwhistle train station every hour to Newcastle – stopping at the Metro Centre – and in the opposite direction to the picturesque Cumbrian city of Carlisle on the edge of the Lake District. Haltwhistle is well served by bus including a special service - the ‘Hadrian’s Wall Bus AD122’, which runs from Carlisle to Newcastle and vice versa, following the route of the wall and stopping at places of interest and historic sites. |
